Qui sommes-nous - Who we are
The Alliance was created in Paris on 21 July 1883 by a group including the scientist Louis Pasteur, the writer Jules Verne. Do you recognize these names?
The Alliance Française is a worldwide network of about 1,100 associations spread over 135 countries. It aims to promote cultural exchanges with France, spread the French language, and foster a better relationship. Every year, about half a million students come to the Alliances Françaises around the world. Every Alliance Française is a non-profit-making association governed by a locally-elected Executive Committee composed of volunteers.
Since its creation in 1883, the Alliance Française has contributed in a massive and original way to the development and influence of the French language throughout the world.
Alliance Française du Piedmont, Upstate SC, was started by French professors from Converse College, just after WWI. We are part of the 100+ chapters in the United States.
At your local Alliance Française, run by volunteers, you’ll find a community of francophones and francophiles who are eager to share the beautiful French language, culture and history with you.
Our mission to:
Develop the teaching and use of the French language;
Promote knowledge of French and Francophone cultures;
Promote diversity and dialogue between cultures.
